forecast as we approach 4:31. storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson's in for tom this week. and did i hear you use the words heat index? >> yes, heat index. >> what happened? >> today, i know. back to little bit of heat. we had some neighborhoods yesterday, in fact, that got up to around 89 to 90 degrees. today, low 90s for highs and a little more humidity, so we're talking about the heat index about 95, 96 degrees for today. so, let's head outdoors and see what's going on. wanted to talk about the rain yesterday and where it's been. the weather front came in, came in early, so the rain setup yesterday was just south. we had some spots south of warrenton that got two inches of rain and in prince george's county, a half inch of rain, but really, we didn't get the big, areawide rains we were planning on. as far as radar now, storm4 radar, we've gothowers around leesburg and frederick, maryland, pushing up to the north and east. notice, too, just north of washington right now, around the northern side of the beltway, some more showers, and those are moving to the north and east. so, for

after a rainy night, the skies are clearing a bit. storm 4 team veronica johnson joins us with the first forecast. a lot of sunshine today, veronica. >> all morning long, the sunshine has been struggling and finally we're getting some of the thinning of the cloud deck there. temperature right now at 81 degrees. the areas that are in the 80s, those areas will get up into a high of 85, 86 degrees and the areas in the 70s, upper 70s will get up to around 80. look at the cloud cover and look at how it has been thinning around prince william, st. mary's and starting to see the hole in the cloud cover means more showers and even the possibility of some thunderstorms for today. and now mcclain, great falls at 75 and 82 degrees and 81 currently in shaw. your showers just a few right now. those are up to the north and moving away from our area around haguerstown. that heavier pocket there around areas of hartford and cecil county moving away but more for us. the details on that coming up. >> see you soon, thank you, veronica. >>> let's check the midday traffic now and danella sealock joins us wit
. the first person i heard about this earthquake came from veronica johnson who saw it on her twitter feed early. >> got to love twitter, right? i've been tweeting about all the humidity in the air. they're humid and there's humid. that's when the air is so thick. that's been the case all day today. at least there's a breeze that's blowing. you can see probably some of the leaves on the trees and branches that are swaying right now. the puddles have gotten a little smaller out here on the storm team 4 weather deck. look at the cloud cover across the area. it is a lot of it, and that's the potential for rainfall hanging over us right now. we have 79 degrees, montgomery county and annapolis, maryland good afternoon to you. almost afternoon. 82 degrees and 72 in hey market, virginia and 77 in manassas, virginia. we have the showers and storms west of the area and down to the south. that spin in the atmosphere is, again, what's left right now of isaac. still causing a lot of trouble and could in some spots today as we get more of those heavy rains coming in in a few locations. i think we'll ha

morning. lots of clouds out there too. storm 4 meteorologist veronica johnson is in for tom and joins us with a look at our forecast. >> you're right, it has been humid this morning, but right now we just have clouds. there's no rain falling from those clouds currently. i do expect that to change, though, over the next couple of hours, especially by the time we get into 2:00 and 3:00 today. here is a look at that radar, as we take a look there with the washington monument and jefferson memorial. gaithersburg, bethesda, areas around bluemont, all dry right now. in fact, we're getting a little bit of sunshine. so as we heat up and with a cold front coming into our area, i am expecting some storms later on. so over the last hour or two here, we've seen more breaks in the cloud cover. take a look to the north and west of front royal, west of fricke there, some sunshine. more of that coming through. high temperatures today will be into the upper 80s. some spots south, perhaps touching on 90. i wanted to show you our temperatures throughout the area, we're 79 to 82. now look at the current hea

meteorologist veronica johnson in for tom kierein. veronica, what did you feel? >> oh, i've been dry inside, but really watching the radar, keith. some folks had a few drops, some folks had the heavy rain and we have the gray sky right now. take a look at our rainfall totals where the heaviest rain has been right there. those two to three inch rains around spotsylvania and culpeper county. got the flash flood warning that continues until 11:15. you can see for these areas here around spotsylvania around spotford county. st. mary's county, and this flash flood warning goes until 1:45 because of the heavy a rain that's moving through there. and you can see in the yellow and orange, that's where there's still moderate rains coming through. just south of d.c. and, good news, the heavy stuff has already moved east of culpepper and fredericksburg but coming down hard now in charles county and i'll have more on what we can expect for the rest of the day and the rest of the week and even the weekend, which shows some signs of fall, but i think you're going to like it. >> come on in here, we'll see

meteorologist veronica johnson has more on hurricane michael and what's happening in our forecast. hi, veronica. >> hey, there. yeah, guys, it just became a category 3 hurricane, so winds well over 100 miles per hour. not so much michael to worry about, but leslie for bermuda saturday night. hurricane leslie, probably a strong cegory 2 storm as it approaches saturday night to areas around bermuda. they're expecting right now 120-mile-per-hour wind gusts and 30-foot seas with heavy rainfall in and around there. so, bermuda, for us, we're going to get the rough surf and rip currents coming our way for the weekend and early part of next week. on radar, we've got that rain right now, frederick and buckeystown and leesburg, headed towards clarksburg and the poolesville area. light showers, mt. airy, gaithersburg, headed towards eldersburg, those light showers. we're in the 70s this morning, 73 to 79 degrees. a warm start again, not quite as muggy this morning, but the humidity will be returning this afternoon. high 84 by noontime. the hometown forecast for columbia, maryland. 87 topping out at 3:00.
